Camilla Staerk Spring / Summer 08
Camilla Staerk is a Danish label based in London. Since its re-launch in 2003 the label has become a unique voice in fashion and is going from strength to strength. The label’s innovative designs have sparked interest with various press including Italian and German Vogue, Elle and Grazia to the diverse VICE and Pride Magazine.
For Spring Summer 2008, Camilla Staerk has created a collection that has been largely inspired by old-time Japan and their traditional ways of dressing. Voluminous silhouettes and origami folds with unusual twist details feature throughout the collection. Camilla Staerk’s fabric choices are synonymous with combining the hard with the soft. In this collection silks encapsulate the body with a smooth and luxurious touch where as the thin jersey pieces act as a delicate “second skin” offering the option of layering. In contrast the leather details provide the garments with structure and strength. Like Japan today, organic textiles are being challenged by the new modern techno fabrics. In this collection, the combination of natural fabrics such as silks, cottons and leathers are modernised by the injection of Japanese chintz for a reflective contrast. Classic black is softened with subtle peach skin tones, with the essence of gold and teal to add richness and intensity to the colour palette. This is echoed through the vintage inspired kimono print that combines these colours. The collection is designed with the cosmopolitan women in mind, for a woman that is female rather than feminine, sensuous rather than sexual.
